Why is Israel attacking Lebanon’s Nabatieh, the major southern city?

Israel issued a forced displacement order for Lebanon's southern city of Nabatieh on Tuesday, striking the city with aircraft and artillery amid its escalating military campaign against Hezbollah targets. Nabatieh is strategically significant because it sits above the Litani River, which has been a focal point in past ceasefire agreements stipulating that Hezbollah should retreat north of the river. Since intensifying operations in Lebanon on March 2, Israel has killed at least 3,213 people in the country while establishing a buffer zone in southern Lebanese territory.
