The Troops 39:7
Surah Az-Zumar verse 39:7 states that Allah has no need of human ingratitude but does not approve of it in His servants, while He approves of those who show gratitude. The verse emphasizes individual accountability, declaring that no person shall bear the burden of another’s sins.
This verse appears in a chapter revealed in Mecca that focuses on monotheism and divine justice. Az-Zumar, meaning “The Troops,” takes its name from verses describing how people will be led to Paradise or Hell in groups. The surah repeatedly emphasizes Allah’s self-sufficiency and humanity’s dependence on divine guidance. Islamic scholars interpret verse 7 as establishing two key principles: Allah’s complete independence from human worship or rejection, and the concept that each soul is responsible only for its own deeds.
The verse reflects core Quranic themes of personal responsibility and divine transcendence that resonate across Muslim communities worldwide, particularly in discussions of social justice and individual accountability before God.
